Special Events

A special event that garnered extensive news coverage was the renaming of Macon’s Water Works Park for MWA Chairman Frank Amerson (far left).
Special events are ideal for garnering news coverage for an organization, as well as providing an opportunity for organizations to showcase their capabilities or brand(s), as well as support worthy causes. JWA has experience originating special event ideas, as well as scheduling and carrying out detailed and timely events on behalf of clients.
As an example, more than 30 years ago, Martha and Jim Wood started hosting an annual Tomato Sandwich Party at their home in Forest Park, in order to raise awareness and funds for Jim Wood's political campaigns. Wood was a three-term member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1976-1982. After his political campaigning days were over, the Woods kept on serving tomato sandwiches, but allocated the funds from the special events to various charities of their choosing.
The current benefactor of the annual Tomato Sandwich Party is the Good Shepherd Clinic in Morrow, Georgia. Before you laugh at the impact of tomato sandwiches as a theme for a special event fundraiser, consider that each year the Good Shepherd Clinic raises on average more than $25,000 from this charitable event. And the Tomato Sandwich Party has outgrown the home of Martha and Jim. As a corporate sponsor of the Tomato Sandwich Party since its founding, JWA uses it as a classic example of the powerful impact a well organized and executed fund raiser can have on an organization, not to mention a community.
